mountain bike crankset?

what would happen if my new crankset would have more teeth than my old crankset would it be bad to my chain?

Depends on how much bigger. If only 1 or 2 more teeth, it would not be a problem. When you are changing an expensive componant like a crankset, it is a good idea to change the chain as well, unless it has also been changed recently. If you don't know or can't remember the last time you changed the chain. change it when you replace the crankset, and you can cut the new one with as many more links as there are extra teeth on your new chainring. It is never a good idea to add new links to an old chain.
